Celebrating Bees, Pollinators & the Small Businesses Helping Them Thrive

At Blackbird Jewellery, nature has always been at the heart of what we do.

From our bee jewellery and flower-inspired designs to our wildlife collections, we're constantly inspired by the incredible creatures that help our natural world flourish. Few are more important than the humble bee.

Bees play a vital role in pollinating the plants, flowers and crops we rely on every day. In fact, many of the fruits, vegetables and wildflowers we enjoy would struggle to survive without them. Yet bee populations continue to face challenges from habitat loss, pesticides and climate change.

That's why we're passionate about celebrating bees, supporting pollinator-friendly initiatives and working with like-minded businesses that share our love of nature.

Discovering The Travelling Bee Company

One of those businesses is The Travelling Bee Company, a family-run beekeeping business specialising in award-winning raw, natural and unprocessed honeys.

Their story began with beekeeping on the urban fringes of Tyne and Wear, before growing to care for bees across North East England, the West Coast of Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway.

What makes their approach so special is their genuine care for the bees themselves. Their colonies are kept in quality hives and moved carefully to locations where they can gather the best nectar and pollen from different flowers and landscapes.

This is where the “travelling” part of their name comes from. By moving their beehives to different locations, their bees are given the best opportunity to create beautiful, high-quality honey from a variety of natural flora.

Alongside their honeys, The Travelling Bee Company also creates thoughtful honey-based products, including balms, soaps and gift sets. Their Wellbeing Hamper brings together natural products inspired by bees, honey and everyday self-care, making it a lovely prize for anyone who appreciates nature-led gifting.

We’re delighted to be partnering with them for this campaign, as both Blackbird Jewellery and The Travelling Bee Company share a love of bees, wildflowers and the natural world.

Why Bees Matter

Bees are responsible for pollinating a huge proportion of the world's flowering plants.

Without them we would see:

  • Fewer wildflowers
  • Reduced biodiversity
  • Lower crop yields
  • Less food for birds and wildlife
  • Fewer colourful gardens and natural habitats

Supporting bees isn't just about helping one species — it's about protecting entire ecosystems.

5 Simple Ways You Can Help Bees

1. Plant Bee-Friendly Flowers

Choose flowers rich in pollen and nectar.

Some bee favourites include:

  • Lavender
  • Foxgloves
  • Sunflowers
  • Cornflowers
  • Cosmos
  • Wildflower mixes

Even a small planter or window box can make a difference.

2. Let Parts of Your Garden Grow Wild

A perfectly manicured garden isn't always the best environment for pollinators.

Allowing a corner of your garden to grow naturally can provide food and shelter for bees and other beneficial insects.

3. Avoid Harmful Pesticides

Where possible, choose natural gardening methods and avoid chemicals that may affect pollinators.

4. Provide Water

Bees need water too.

A shallow dish filled with pebbles and fresh water gives bees a safe place to drink during warm weather.

5. Support Bee-Friendly Businesses

Whether it's buying local honey, planting wildflowers or choosing gifts inspired by nature, supporting businesses that actively celebrate pollinators helps spread awareness and encourages others to do the same.

Supporting bees doesn't have to involve major changes.

A few bee-friendly flowers, choosing local products, sharing awareness and supporting independent businesses can all contribute to a healthier future for pollinators.

We'll continue sharing stories, tips and partnerships with businesses that help people reconnect with nature, and we're delighted to spotlight The Travelling Bee Company as part of that journey.
