Who’s Visiting Your Garden This Week? | Big Garden Birdwatch & Our Feathered Friends
Each winter, the Big Garden Birdwatch invites us all to pause, look out of the window, and notice the quiet magic happening in our gardens.
This year, the timing feels especially important. With the recent cold snap, food is scarce, water may be frozen, and many birds – especially those living in towns and cities – are struggling to find shelter from the cold… and from the ever-present neighbourhood cats.
So this week, we’re asking one simple question:
Who’s visiting your garden?
Whether you’re in the countryside or the heart of the city, every sighting matters. And at Blackbird Jewellery, many of the birds you’re spotting are the very ones that inspire our designs.
The Blackbird – Our Namesake
Bold, curious, and full of character, the blackbird is one of the most familiar visitors to British gardens.
Often seen hopping across lawns or singing from rooftops, blackbirds are resilient little souls — but even they struggle when the ground freezes and insects disappear.
If you’re lucky enough to see one this week, pop out a few mealworms or softened fruit. It can make a real difference.
Our Blackbird jewellery pieces celebrate this much-loved garden companion — a small reminder of the wildlife right outside our doors.
The Robin – Winter’s Little Hero
No bird feels more like winter than the robin.
With their bright red breast and fearless nature, robins often come surprisingly close, especially when you’re gardening or refilling feeders. During cold weather, they rely heavily on us for food and unfrozen water.
If a robin visits your garden this week, you’re doing something right.
Our Robin necklaces and bracelets are inspired by this symbol of hope, warmth, and resilience — a tiny bird with a big heart.
The Wren – Small but Mighty
Wrens may be one of the smallest birds in your garden, but they’re among the toughest.
In freezing temperatures, wrens often huddle together in nest boxes to share warmth and survive the night. Leaving out high-energy foods like suet can be a lifeline for them.
Our Wren jewellery capture this quiet strength — delicate in form, but full of spirit.
Swallows & Swans – Out and About Beyond the Garden
Not all birdwatching happens in the garden.
If you’re heading out for a winter walk this week, keep an eye on lakes, rivers, and open spaces.

These moments of calm, even in winter, are exactly what inspire our nature collections.

Why This Week Matters
The Big Garden Birdwatch isn’t just about counting birds — it’s about understanding how wildlife is coping with changing seasons, colder snaps, shrinking habitats, and urban life.
By taking part, even for just one hour, you’re helping protect the birds we love.
And by putting out food, fresh water, and safe shelter, you’re giving them a fighting chance.
